Total Eclipse 2017

There was lots and lots of hype building up to this total eclipse that left us wondering if it was really going to happen. Then the day came. Dad's classroom was the 'opt out' room, meaning that the kids whose parents didn't want them outside viewing the eclipse got to watch it on TV in the classroom. I got to hang out with Dad today. We did lots of classwork about the eclipse in the morning, then had an early lunch before we started viewing the coverage. Liberty was in the path of totality for 2 min 5 sec.

Mom made t-shirts at her work:
Mom worked from home & went to Kalia's preschool over lunch to help the preschoolers with the viewing of the eclipse. Funny thing was, it was raining all morning and literally cleared at 11:40 - just in time to start viewing the eclipse coverage.
Special eclipse glasses had to be worn when looking at the sun it didn't burn our eyes.
A tiny crescent through the glasses

Darkness...
and TOTAL ECLIPSE!!!
It got darker, like it was nighttime, street lights came on, cicadas were singing...IT WAS NIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY! WHAT AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! We could hear people cheering and yelling at neighborhood watch parties...and fireworks were going off! SO SO SO SO SO SO COOL!!!
This picture was taken by a teacher at another school - but it was so cool to see the 360 degree sunset!!
Mom went home afterwards...the preschoolers had rest time, then snacks and a movie, WALL-E
Mom got home just in time...it started raining and we had a huge thunderstorm the rest of the afternoon! We were SO lucky the clouds parted in time to view the eclipse - it's like Mother Nature knew!!!
